| The Library Board supports
the Canadian Library Association statement on Intellectual Freedom as well
as on Information and Telecommunications Access. As such, it provides free
public Internet access with the fewest possible restrictions. The Internet
has become an essential medium in public libraries. It is, however,
non-selective and unregulated and therefore informed use is advised. |
| |
| Users (and parents or
legal guardians, if applicable) of the Library’s Public Access Terminals
must acknowledge and abide by the guidelines and rules of this Internet
Acceptable Use Policy. Library users are expected to act in a responsible,
ethical and legal manner. |
| |
| 1. The user and his/her
parent/legal guardian are advised that the Library does not control,
monitor or filter the information accessible on the Internet. Information
obtained may contain material that is illegal, defamatory, inaccurate or
offensive to certain persons. |
| |
| 2. The Library makes no
warranties with respect to Internet service and it specifically assumes no
responsibility for any advice or information received or for any costs,
liability or damages incurred through its use. It is not responsible for
any consequences of service interruptions or charges. |
| |
| 3. The Library will make
every reasonable effort to protect individual privacy; however, because
libraries are public facilities, this privilege cannot be guaranteed. |
| |
| 4. The user agrees to
indemnify the Library, its employees and directors from any claims which
might be made against the Library, arising from usage of its Internet
facilities. |
